2004: the cattle population of this breed increased in recent years. The culling programme carried out a rescue programme for breeds at risk, like the Northern Finncattle.

Other special qualities
Animals of this breed are mainly polled. They are extremely tame. The cows had to walk long distances during the war, especially in 1944-45 when Lapland was evacuated.
