Description
The most numerous and wide spread type of sheep in southwest Asia. It is also bred in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Cyprius and Saudi Arabia.

It is reported that the İvesi (Awassi) in Turkey made up to 2.3% of the total sheep population in 1984 and up to 1.8% in 1976.
